Angola X publishes primarily in English to serve the broadest possible audience of international investors, fund managers, and analysts engaged with Angola’s capital markets. However, as a platform covering a Lusophone market – where Portuguese is the official language, the language of regulation, and the language spoken by the vast majority of Angolan retail investors and diaspora community members – we recognize the importance of making key content available in Portuguese.

Abordagem Actual / Current Approach

Throughout the Angola X platform, Portuguese terminology (terminologia financeira em portugues) is provided on first mention of all major institutions, instruments, and concepts. This includes:

• Banco Nacional de Angola (BNA) – central bank, base rate (taxa basica) at 17.5%
• Comissao do Mercado de Capitais (CMC) – capital markets regulator
• Central de Valores Mobiliarios de Angola (CEVAMA) – central securities depository
• Bolsa de Divida e Valores de Angola (BODIVA) – debt and securities exchange
• Sociedade Nacional de Combustiveis de Angola (Sonangol) – national oil company
• Programa de Privatizacoes (PROPRIV) – privatization programme
• Bilhetes do Tesouro – treasury bills
• Obrigacoes do Tesouro – treasury bonds
• Kwanza (AOA) – national currency (~914.60 per USD)

This approach ensures that Portuguese-speaking readers can identify and cross-reference terms with local regulatory documents, BNA bulletins, CMC regulations, and BODIVA announcements, all of which are published in Portuguese.

Porque Ingles? / Why English?

The decision to publish primarily in English reflects the platform’s institutional positioning. The investors, fund managers, development finance analysts, and corporate treasury teams who constitute Angola X’s core audience operate predominantly in English. International capital – from London, New York, Johannesburg, and Dubai – flows into Angola through English-language analysis, term sheets, and research reports. By publishing in English, Angola X ensures that Angolan market intelligence is accessible to the global investor community on equal terms.

This does not diminish the importance of Portuguese. As BODIVA’s equity market grows – with BAI (~Kz 100,500), BFA (~Kz 118,000), and PROPRIV pipeline listings attracting more domestic retail participation – Portuguese-language content will expand proportionally.
